In early February 2024 a design was submitted to the art-for-architecture competition of a housing association, the Stadt-und-Land-Wohnbaugesellschaft in Berlin. The task is to design the interior of the entrances to seven buildings in a residential complex.
Here the art for architecture is for the people who live in the buildings. They are people with diverse interests, habits and attitudes. We want to take account of all of them, as they are all at home here – children and adults. For this reason, the proposed art concept is easily comprehensible for all, free from problems and, above all, positive in its mood. Only in this way can people accept and understand art as part of their home.
This identification is reinforced by individualising the entrances to the buildings. The identifying signs 1A, 1B, 1C and 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B are integrated into floral motifs in such a way that they can be read only when viewed attentively, but when seen daily they attain a recognisable status. The entrances are, however, distinguished not only by the sign, but also by the individual motifs. Moreover, each of the buildings has its own dominant colour. 1 is green, 2 is blue, 3 is red – this is the initial proposal. The colours are interchangeable, however, and can be made to match the colours of the adjacent walls.
